ANALYSIS ON THE TRANSLATION OF DEMONSTRATIVE AND POSSESIVE PRONOUN INTO INDONESIAN

This is a descriptive analytical study. The problems of the research are: (1) what are the translation of demonstratives and possessive pronouns, (2) are they any shift used in order to get equivalent of the demonstratives and possessive pronouns, and (3) what are the translation strategies. The purposes of the research are: (1) to describe the analysis on the translation of demonstratives and possessive pronoun, (2) to describe and analyze the use of shift, and (3) to describe translation strategies used. The sources of the data are a novel entitled Deck the Halls by Mary and Carol Higgins Clark and a translation novel entitled Kidung Suka cita.The result of the analysis revealed that not all principles of translation and translation strategies were used for the analysis. There are four principles from six principles of translation, those are meaning (36 data), source language influence (13 data), style and clarity (22 data), and idiom (4 data). The researcher used seven translation strategies from thirty translation strategies namely paraphrase (4 data), cultural filtering (21 data), cohesion change (21 data), interpersonal change (6 data), literal translation (2 data), and transposition (18 data).
