2025-06-292025-06-2996ANALYSIS OF FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE USED IN SELECTED BEACH HOUSE SONGS
https://oaj.jurnalhst.com/index.php/jhr/article/view/12649

This study focuses on figurative language in selected Beach House songs. The aim of this research is to understand the meaning behind song lyrics that contain figurative language using Laurence Perrine's theory of figurative language. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative, based on Cresswell's (2018) theory of qualitative approach, where the lyrics are thoroughly studied and specific phrases are examined for their deeper meanings. The findings show that only four types of figurative language appear across the three selected songs: Space Song, Sparks, and Levitation, namely metaphor, symbolism, simile, and imagery. These elements are used to convey abstract emotions, inner conflict, memory, and transformation. It can be concluded that figurative language in Beach House’s lyrics serves as a subtle yet powerful tool to construct emotional atmosphere and deepen interpretive meaning within the songs.
Asri AstutiEva Khoirunisa

2025-06-292025-06-2996STUDY OF THERMAL TREATMENT RETENTION TIME EFFECT ON PHENOL CONTENT AND PH OF SPENT COFFEE GROUND
https://oaj.jurnalhst.com/index.php/jhr/article/view/12793

Indonesia, as a tropical country that is ideal for growing coffee beans, produced 760.2 thousand metric tons of coffee beans in 2023. With such huge production, the sustainability of its waste, such as spent coffee grounds, becomes a concern that needs to be addressed. Thermal Treatment, a partial oxidation combustion process, becomes one of the keys to the sustainability of this byproduct. Thermal Treatment turns spent coffee grounds into more useful products, such as liquid smoke. Bio-oil, the product produced by the Thermal Treatment process, often called Liquid Smoke, is a multifunctional liquid, contains phenolic compounds with antimicrobial properties. By integrating Thermal Treatment technology into waste management, sustainable and circular bio-economy models can be promoted. This research aims to investigate and study one of the Thermal Treatment parameters, the effect of retention time. Does retention time affect the products produced in Thermal Treatment, like the phenol content and pH in liquid smoke. The Research method involves an experiment on two different retention times of 60 and 90 minutes, where spent coffee grounds are subjected to thermal treatment at different retention times to produce smoke liquid. At first, spent coffee was gathered, for pre-treatment, spent coffee grounds were baked in an oven at 100°C for 1 hour, then the spent coffee ground was divided into 500g with two samples each, as the samples would go through two different Retention times of 60 minutes and 90 minutes at a temperature of 150℃. Then, these samples would be put in the Thermal Treatment chamber for them to go through the Thermal Treatment process once at a time. A study with two sets of different retention times was conducted. The resulting Liquid Smokes is then analyzed for its chemical composition, the pH and phenol content. The result in phenol content is 375.7 mg/L, 364.8 mg/L, for a retention time of 60 minutes, and 412.3 mg/L, 401.6 mg/L for a retention time of 90 minutes, which shows there is a significant difference. Liquid Smoke shows 20.7% higher yield at 90 mins (198.5 mL vs. 164.5 mL), while on the other hand, biochar shows no significant difference with an average of around 70 grams across both 60 and 90 minute retention times, and pH became less acidic with longer retention from 6.85 to 7.75. In conclusion, the research on Thermal Treatment’s retention time reveals that retention time durations do affect the outcomes. The result shows 90 minute retention time is more ideal since the result shows it produces higher Liquid Smoke volume (198.5 mL vs. 164.5 mL) at 60 mins, 9.8% more phenols content (412.3 mg/L vs. 375.7 mg/L).
Mohammad Akbar FajrianYunita Ismail Masjud

https://oaj.jurnalhst.com/index.php/jhr/article/view/12710

Optimal public service is an important need in village government, as regulated in Law Number 25 of 2009 concerning public services. However, the implementation of services in villages often faces various challenges such as inefficient processes, lack of responsiveness, and complicated procedures. With the development of information technology, digitalization has become a solution to improve the effectiveness of public services, as implemented through the DIGIDESA application in Gaga Village, Pakuhaji District. DIGIDESA is designed to assist village governments in managing administration and public services. However, its implementation has not been running optimally, because most of the service processes are still carried out manually. This is due to limited features and understanding of the application which is still new. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method to evaluate the effectiveness of digital-based services. The analysis refers to the theoretical framework of innovation by Rogers, which includes relative advantages, suitability, complexity, trialability, and ease of observation. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of DIGIDESA has great potential to improve the quality of public services in Gaga Village if supported by improving the technical capabilities of village officials and optimizing application features. The digitalization of public services is expected not only to increase efficiency and transparency, but also to strengthen public trust in the village government. With further development, DIGIDESA can become a model for technology-based public service innovation at the village level.
Surya NullohZaenal MustaqimRio JuliansyahSamsul Muarif Martin Luther GiawaEko Prasetyo

https://oaj.jurnalhst.com/index.php/jhr/article/view/12655

The title of this study is The Conflict Faced by the Main Character in the Novel entitled The Secret Garden. This study focused on the internal and external conflict faced by Mary and Colin, the main characters. The data for this study was taken from a novel entitled The Secret Garden. The data is analyzed through qualitative research according to the theory of literature proposed by Kenney (1966) and Thomas and Killman (2007). Based on the analysis, it was found that the main character faced internal and external conflict: man versus man and man versus nature. The internal conflict is also faced by the main character, man vs. self. Man versus man conflict is prevalent in the novel, as is man versus self-conflict. Meanwhile, for the conflict management strategy that is used by the character to manage the conflict, it is found to be those five strategic instruments proposed by Thomas and Killman. They are competing, collaborating, compromising, avoiding, and accommodating. However, the majority of the main characters use an avoidance strategy to deal with their conflict.
Saron Magdalen HamokwarongIda Bagus Gde Nova Winarta

https://oaj.jurnalhst.com/index.php/jhr/article/view/12651

This study aims to analyze the turn taking strategies employed in the animated show Danger Mouse Series 2 Episode 56 (2017). Using a qualitative descriptive method, the researchers transcribed the episode and applied Stenström’s framework to identify the types of the turn taking strategies, including taking the turn, holding the turn, and yielding the turn. The findings reveal that various strategies are used to manage conversational flow, such as clean starts, uptakes, interruptions, pauses, and repetitions. These strategies help express character emotions and interactional dynamics, even in a fictional context. The result shows that the dialogue mirrors real life spoken interactions, indicating that turn taking strategies are essential in building coherent and engaging conversations in animated storytelling. The study concludes that turn taking mechanisms in fictional narratives can effectively reflect natural language use, enhancing both character development and narrative clarity.
Hasna MaritzaRahma Iftita Putri

Stunting prevention is a strategic effort to improve child health quality and community welfare. This study aims to find out the implementation of stunting prevention policy for toddlers in Kemawi Village, Somagede Sub-district, Banyumas Regency, using a descriptive qualitative approach based on Edward III's policy implementation theory. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving key informants, including village officials, nutritionists, midwives, health cadres, and parents of stunted children. The findings indicate that policy implementation in Kemawi Village has been effective, marked by efficient communication, adequate human resources, positive implementer disposition, and a well-coordinated bureaucratic structure. However, challenges remain, such as uneven transmission of technical information and overlapping roles, particularly the dual position of the PKK Chairperson also serving as the Head of Health Cadres, which may lead to excessive workload in the future. The study recommends strengthening a more systematic communication mechanism, formal documentation of task distribution, and regular evaluation of the bureaucratic structure to prevent workload imbalances. With these improvements, the implementation of the stunting prevention policy in Kemawi Village is expected to become more optimal, with broader and more sustainable impacts on child health and community welfare.
Anis SusiatiAriesta Amanda Zaula Rizqi AtikaChamid SutiknoIndah Ayu Permana Pribadi
