PERAN IMKA (IKATAN MAHASISWA KARO) DALAM MELESTARIKAN BUDAYA SERTA MEMBANGAUN SOLIDARITAS MAHASISWA KARO DI UNIVERSITAS NEGERI MEDAN

Abstrak

This study aims to examine the role of the Ikatan Mahasiswa Karo (IMKA) in preserving culture while simultaneously fostering solidarity among Karo students at Universitas Negeri Medan (UNIMED). The background of this research is based on the challenges of globalization, which may shift local cultural values and weaken ethnic identity among the younger generation. The study employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach through in-depth interviews with IMKA members. The findings reveal that IMKA makes a significant contribution to maintaining the existence of Karo culture through various activities, such as traditional arts training, cultural seminars, Karo language competitions, and art performances. In addition, IMKA plays an important role in strengthening social solidarity among Karo students through both formal and informal activities, including meetings, discussions, and daily communal activities. The solidarity that is built not only supports the sustainability of the organization but also enhances self-confidence, social skills, and strengthens the social networks of the students.
