The study aims to determine the effect of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by animated films on the short story writing skills at Xth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Air Batu in 2025/2026 Academic Year. The method used was a quasi-experimental design with a Posttest-Only Control Group Design. The study sample consisted of 72 students, consisting of 36 in the experimental class and 36 in the control class, selected using a purposive sampling technique. The research instrument was a short story writing test assessed based on six intrinsic elements: theme, characters and characterization, plot, setting, point of view, and style. The results showed an average score of 65.11 for the control class and 83.28 for the experimental class. The data were normally distributed based on the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test (sig. > 0.05), and had homogeneous variance based on the Levene test (sig. > 0.05). 0.107 > 0.05. Hypothesis testing using the Independent Sample t-Test yielded a T count of 10.370 with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, thus, H0 is rejected and Hₐ is accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant effect of the use of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model assisted by animated films on the short story writing skills at Xth-grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Air Batu in 2025/2026 Academic Year.
