Perkembangan pesat teknologi informasi dan komunikasi telah mengubah cara orang mengakses dan mengonsumsi konten multimedia, termasuk film digital. Layanan streaming seperti Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, dan platform lokal menawarkan akses yang mudah, namun juga berkontribusi pada peningkatan pembajakan dan distribusi konten ilegal, yang berdampak negatif pada industri kreatif. Di Indonesia, situs seperti IndoXXI dan LK21 menjadi contoh distribusi film ilegal yang meluas sebelum intervensi pemerintah. Salah satu solusi untuk mengatasi masalah ini adalah penerapan Digital Rights Management (DRM), kombinasi kebijakan dan mekanisme teknis yang mengatur penggunaan, distribusi, dan akses kekonten digital. DRM beroperasi melalui enkripsi, pembatasan akses, dan verifikasi lisensi untuk memastikan perlindungan hak cipta. Penerapan DRM tidak hanya bersifat teknis, tetapi juga menimbulkan pertimbangan etis dan hukum, karena dapat membatasi hak akses pengguna. Artikel ini mengkaji konsep, mekanisme, dan efektivitas DRM dalam mengurangi pembajakan film digital, sekaligus meninjau implikasi etis dan hukumnya.
The rapid development of information and communication technology has transformed the way people access and consume multimedia content, including digital films. Streaming services such as Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, and local platforms offer easy access, but also contribute to the increase of piracy and illegal content distribution, which negatively impacts the creative industry. In Indonesia, sites like IndoXXI and LK21 exemplify widespread illegal film distribution before government intervention. One of the solutions to address this issue is the implementation of Digital Rights Management (DRM), a combination of policy and technical mechanisms that regulate the usage, distribution, and access to digital content. DRM operates through encryption, access restriction, and license verification to ensure copyright protection. The application of DRM is not only technical but also raises ethical and legal considerations, as it may limit users’ access rights. This article examines the concepts, mechanisms, and effectiveness of DRM in reducing digital film piracy, while also reviewing its ethical and legal implications.
