INTERPRETASI VISUAL FASAD ARSITEKTUR POST MODERN HOTEL NIAGARA PARAPAT

Abstrak

Arsitektur postmodern berkembang sebagai respons terhadap modernisme dengan menekankan keberagaman makna, simbol, dan konteks lokal. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis interpretasi visual fasad Hotel Niagara Parapat sebagai representasi arsitektur postmodern dalam membangun identitas tempat dan mempertahankan nilai kearifan lokal. Penelitian menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif-interpretatif melalui observasi visual dan analisis elemen fasad berdasarkan konsep double coding dan plurality of meaning. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa fasad Hotel Niagara Parapat memadukan elemen arsitektur lokal dan modern secara harmonis. Bentuk atap yang menyerupai Jabu Batak, penggunaan ornamen gorga, serta pemilihan warna alami merepresentasikan identitas budaya lokal, sementara komposisi massa bangunan dan ritme bukaan mencerminkan pengaruh arsitektur kontemporer. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa fasad hotel tersebut berfungsi tidak hanya sebagai elemen estetis, tetapi juga sebagai media komunikasi budaya yang kontekstual. Penelitian ini berimplikasi pada pentingnya penerapan prinsip arsitektur postmodern dalam perancangan bangunan pariwisata untuk memperkuat identitas lokal sekaligus menjawab tuntutan zaman.

Postmodern architecture emerged as a response to modernism by emphasizing diversity of meaning, symbolism, and local context. This study aims to analyze the visual interpretation of the façade of Hotel Niagara Parapat as a representation of postmodern architecture in shaping place identity and preserving local wisdom. The research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive-interpretative approach through visual observation and façade element analysis based on the concepts of double coding and plurality of meaning. The findings reveal that the façade of Hotel Niagara Parapat harmoniously integrates local and modern architectural elements. Roof forms inspired by the Batak Jabu house, the application of gorga ornaments, and the use of natural colors symbolize local cultural identity, while building mass composition and opening rhythms reflect contemporary architectural influences. These results indicate that the hotel façade functions not merely as an aesthetic component, but also as a medium of cultural communication that is responsive to its context. This study implies the significance of applying postmodern architectural principles in tourism-related buildings to reinforce local identity while accommodating contemporary architectural expressions.
