Mathematical problem-solving ability is one of the essential skills that must be possessed by elementary school students, especially those in sixth grade. However, based on the learning situation at Taman Asuhan Private Elementary School in Pematang Siantar City, this ability is still very low. This condition is mainly caused by teaching practices that are overly teacher-centered and do not sufficiently engage students in actively dealing with mathematical problems. Therefore, a learning model that can encourage students to think critically and actively is needed, one of which is the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. This study aims to determine the extent of the influence of the Problem Based Learning model on the mathematical problem-solving ability of sixth-grade students at Taman Asuhan Private Elementary School in Pematang Siantar City. The study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design. The research subjects consisted of two classes: an experimental class that applied the PBL model and a control class that used conventional teaching methods. Data were collected through mathematical problem-solving ability tests administered before and after the treatment. The data were analyzed using inferential statistical tests to examine differences in problem-solving ability between the two groups. The results showed that students who participated in learning through the Problem Based Learning model demonstrated higher problem-solving abilities than those who received conventional instruction. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Problem Based Learning model has a significant effect on the mathematical problem-solving ability of sixth-grade students at Taman Asuhan Private Elementary School in Pematang Siantar City. This model can serve as an effective alternative to improve the quality of mathematics instruction in elementary schools.
