Abstrak

Background: Early marriage remains a significant issue that affects reproductive health. The intention to marry at a young age is influenced by various factors, including attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, and the development of social media as a source of information. Objective: To analyze the effects of attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control on the intention to marry at a young age through the mediating role of social media among adolescents in Timusu Village, Soppeng Regency. Methods: This quantitative study employed a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 136 adolescents selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire. Data analysis included univariate analysis, multiple linear regression (t-test), and the Sobel test. Results: The results showed that attitudes and subjective norms had positive and significant effects on the intention to marry at a young age (p<0.05). Perceived behavioral control and social media did not have significant effects on the intention to marry at a young age (p>0.05). Social media did not mediate the relationship between attitudes and the intention to marry at a young age or between subjective norms and the intention to marry at a young age (p>0.05). However, social media significantly mediated the relationship between perceived behavioral control and the intention to marry at a young age (Z=2.589; p=0.0096). Conclusion: Attitudes and subjective norms are factors that influence the intention to marry at a young age, whereas perceived behavioral control and social media do not have direct significant effects. Social media serves as a mediating variable only in the relationship between perceived behavioral control and the intention to marry at a young age.
