MENEMUKAN MAKNA TEOLOGIS DI BALIK RITUS HAMIS BATAR PADA MASYARAKAT WESE WEHALI

Abstrak

Tulisan ini bermaksud untuk (1) memahami lebih mendalam tentang siapa itu masyarakat Wese Wehali (2) mengkaji dan menjelaskan ritus hamis batar dan (3) mendeskripsikan dan menjelaskan makna teologis di balik ritus hamis batar. Penulis berasumsi bahwa masyarakat Wese Wehali merupakan kumpulan masyarakat yang sangat menjunjung tinggi nilai-nilai dalam kebudayaan. Salah satu kebudayaan yang masih dilestarikan hingga sekarang adalah ritus hamis batar. Ritus hamis batar merupakan suatu bentuk praktik kebudayaan yang dilakukan oleh masyarakat Wese Wehali pada saat musim panen jagung muda. Bagi mereka, ritus ini merupakan ungkapan syukur atas Wujud Tertinggi dan roh para leluhur yang memiliki peran sangat penting dalam menjaga, melindungi dan memenuhi kebutuhan kehidupan mereka. Mereka percaya bahwa keberhasilan dalam musim panen merupakan berkat campur tangan dari para leluhur dan Tuhan sebagai sang pemberi kehidupan. Dengan demikian, ritus hamis batar dimaknai sebagai: Pertama, ungkapan rasa syukur kepada Wujud Tertinggi dan para leluhur sebagai pencipta, pemelihara, pemberi dan penyelamat seluruh hidup manusia. Kedua, sebagai tanda persembahan atas hasil panen mereka kepada Sang Pencipta dan kepada para leluhur. Ketiga, sebagai perayaan kenangan dari mereka yang mengalami hadirnya kembali karya Allah yang telah memberikan keberhasilan dalam hasil panen. Keempat, sebagai perayaan persaudaraan sekaligus permohonan untuk mempererat kebersamaan dalam penyelamatanNya melalui Kristus.

This paper intends to (1) understand more deeply about who the Wese Wehali community is (2) examine and explain the hamis batar rite and (3) describe and explain the theological meaning behind the hamis batar rite. The author assumes that the Wese Wehali community is a group of people who highly uphold values in culture. One culture that is still preserved today is the hamis batar rite. The hamis batar rite is a form of cultural practice carried out by the Wese Wehali community during the young corn harvest season. For them, this rite is an expression of gratitude for the Supreme Being and the spirits of the ancestors who have a very important role in protecting and fullfiling their life needs. They believe that success in the harvest season is thanks to the intervention of the ancestors and God as the giver of life. Thus, the hamis batar rite is interpreted as: First, it is an expression of gratitude to the Supreme Being and the ancestors as the creator, sustainer, giver and savior of all human life. Second, as a sign of offering their harvest to the creator and to the ancestors. Third, as a celebration of the memory of those who experienced the re-presentation of God’s work that had given success in the harvest. Fourth, as a celebration of brotherhood as well as a plea to strengthen togethernees in his salvation through Christ.
