Cholesterol is an essential component of cell structural membranes and is an important framework
for brain and nerve cells and is also a material for the formation of steroids such as folic acid,
estrogen, endogenous, prostesterone, adrenal cortex hormones and bile acids. The normal value
for cholesterol levels is less than 200 mg/dl. Meanwhile, blood donation is the process of taking
blood from someone voluntarily to be stored in a blood bank for later use in blood transfusions.
There are several actions that can reduce blood cholesterol levels, one of which is donating blood.
In Indonesia, especially in the city of Surakarta, there has been no research on the effect of donor
frequency on blood cholesterol levels. The aim of this research is to determine the effect of blood
donation frequency on donors' cholesterol levels in PMI Surakarta City. This research method is
an analytical observational cross sectional approach with accidental sampling technique. The
sample in this study consisted of 38 blood donor respondents, namely 24 respondents with regular
donor frequency and 14 respondents with non-routine donor frequency. The research was carried
out using serum samples using the Enzymatic Cholesterol Hydrolysis and Oxidation
Determination from Hydrogen Peroxide and Aminophenazone (CHOD-PAP) examination method.
The research results showed a p value of 0.01 (<0.05) which indicated a significant difference
between the cholesterol levels of routine and non-routine donors. This shows that there is an
influence of the frequency of blood donations on cholesterol levels in donors at PMI Surakarta
City
