Abstrak

This study aims to determine the effect of the chain writing learning method on the ability to write news texts of class VII students of MTs Negeri 2 Medan in the 2024/2025 Academic Year. Chain writing is a collaborative learning strategy that actively involves students in the process of writing in a chain and is in line with the Merdeka Curriculum approach which is centered on students. The population in this study was 383 students, with a sample of 32 students selected through purposive sampling techniques. The study used a one group pretest-posttest design. The instrument used was an assignment to write news texts which were assessed based on three aspects, namely the accuracy of writing the title, text structure, and language rules. The results showed that students' abilities before the chain writing method was applied were in the sufficient category with an average value of 57.5. After the method was applied, the average value increased to 81.47 and was classified as good. Hypothesis testing using the "t" test produced a tcount value of 19.77> ttable 1.695 at a significance level of 0.05. Thus, H₀ is rejected and Hₐ is accepted, which means that there is a significant influence of the chain writing method on students' news text writing skills. This finding shows that the chain writing method is effective in improving news text writing skills, especially in terms of structure, language, and title accuracy.
