Cursing behavior refers to a form of verbal behavior characterized by the use of harsh, profane, or offensive language that may develop into a habitual behavior among late adolescents and university students. This study aimed to evaluate the implementation of the token economy technique in reducing the frequency of cursing behavior among late adolescents. The study employed an experimental method using a Single Subject Design (SSD) with an A–B–A pattern consisting of an initial baseline phase (A1), an intervention phase (B), and an evaluation or withdrawal phase (A2). The participant was a 21-year-old female university student who exhibited a high frequency of habitual cursing behavior. Data were collected through daily self-monitoring using a digital spreadsheet and analyzed using visual analysis of graphed data, including within-condition analysis and between-condition analysis. The results indicated that the implementation of the token economy technique was associated with a reduction in the frequency of cursing behavior. The mean frequency decreased from 58.5 occurrences per day during the A1 phase to 38.6 occurrences per day during the B phase, and further decreased to 21.0 occurrences per day during the A2 phase, with a 64.1% reduction and 0% data overlap between the A1 and A2 phases. These findings suggest that token economy has the potential to serve as an effective strategy for modifying habitual verbal behavior among late adolescents, particularly when combined with self-monitoring and other behavioral regulation strategies.
