KONSEP HAKEKAT, KONSEP DAN TUJUAN PEMBELAJARAN IPS DI SD/MI

Abstrak

Social Studies (IPS) at the elementary school level plays an important role in shaping students’ character and social understanding. This study aims to explain the nature, objectives, philosophical foundations, urgency, and dimensions of Social Studies learning. The method used is a literature review that analyzes various theoretical sources and previous research findings. As a field of study, Social Studies integrates several social science disciplines such as geography, history, economics, and sociology. Social Studies instruction in elementary schools does not focus solely on cognitive knowledge, but also instills moral values, social attitudes, and critical thinking skills. The dimensions of Social Studies learning include knowledge, skills, attitudes, and actions that aim to develop students into active, tolerant, and responsible citizens. Fundamentally, Social Studies is essential to teach from the beginning of formal education. This need is evident from the many students who still do not fully understand the materials taught in Social Studies. However, Social Studies learning at the elementary level faces several challenges, including limited resources, teachers’ insufficient content knowledge, and restricted instructional time. Social Studies at the elementary level should be taught to students using a constructivist approach.
