PENGARUH PENGGUNAAN AI (CHATBOT) TERHADAP PEMEROLEHAN BAHASA KEDUA MAHASISWA

This research investigates the influence of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based chatbots on students’ second language acquisition (L2). The study aims to explore how chatbots such as ChatGPT contribute to students’ linguistic, cognitive, and affective development in learning English as a second language. The research employs a qualitative descriptive approach within the psycholinguistic framework. Data were collected from ten fifth-semester Education students who actively use chatbots in their learning processes. Observation and semi-structured interviews were conducted to gain in-depth information about students’ experiences. The findings reveal that AI chatbots provide significant benefits in language acquisition by offering authentic input, real-time feedback, and continuous interaction. Students reported improvements in vocabulary, pronunciation, and speaking confidence. However, some participants became overly dependent on AI, reducing their social interaction skills. The study concludes that chatbots can effectively support L2 acquisition when used as a complementary tool alongside traditional human-based instruction.
