The beauty industry in Indonesia is experiencing rapid growth in line with increasing public awareness of self-care and the rise of social media. One popular trend is the “flawless complexion” technique, a makeup technique designed to create a smooth, natural, and long-lasting skin finish. The development of social media has also influenced the differences in makeup styles between Gen Z and Millennial makeup artists. This study aims to describe the application of the flawless complexion technique by Gen Z and Millennial makeup artists, analyze the differences, and determine its implications for the competencies of beauty therapy students. The study employs a comparative descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing data collection techniques such as observation, interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The results indicate that Gen Z makeup artists prioritize natural, light, and skin-like makeup results achieved through minimalist layering techniques, with a strong influence from social media. Meanwhile, Millennial MUAs tend to use complex layering techniques, full coverage, and focus on the longevity of formal makeup. This study also indicates that mastery of modern and classic makeup techniques, the ability to adapt to trends, creativity, and digital literacy are essential competencies for Beauty Therapy students to be prepared to compete in the digital-era beauty industry.
