Abstrak

This study aims to examine the influence of anxiety culture on the self-confidence of students at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Padang Panjang in the digital era. Anxiety culture refers to the anxiety phenomenon arising from social pressure and expectations shaped by social media, which can decrease an individual's self-confidence. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, with qualitative methods as the primary approach and quantitative methods as support. Qualitative data were collected through in-depth interviews with six active social media users experiencing anxiety, while quantitative data were gathered through questionnaires distributed to 100 student respondents. The results indicate that anxiety culture formed through social comparison and unrealistic representations of reality on social media negatively affects students’ self-confidence, hindering their creativity and academic motivation. This study highlights the importance of digital literacy education and psychological support to enhance students' self-confidence in coping with digital pressures.
