Abstrak

The development of digital technology has changed the way individuals interact and access information, especially among teenagers. This study aims to examine the use of social media as a means of communication and intervention in Guidance and Counseling (BK) services in the digital era. The research method uses a literature review by analyzing various credible academic sources published within the period of 2020-2025. Data were collected through the search of national and international scientific journals, textbooks, and official publications related to guidance counseling and digital technology. The research results show that social media has great potential in transforming BK services through several aspects: (1) as an effective communication tool between BK teachers and students by utilizing chat, voice note, and video call features; (2) as a means of online individual counseling that increases students' openness in expressing personal issues; and (3) as a medium for guidance intervention through basic, responsive, and development services using platforms such as WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, and Google Classroom. However, the implementation of social media in BK services faces significant challenges in terms of ethics, privacy, and professionalism, including the risk of blurred boundaries and digital literacy gaps. This research recommends implementation strategies that include strengthening the digital competencies of BK teachers, developing relevant service content, and establishing clear ethical policies. In conclusion, social media can be a transformative tool in BK services that are more responsive and contextual, but it requires proper management to ensure the effectiveness and professionalism of these services.
