“UBBEK KEREL” SENIMAN TRADISIONAL TURUK LAGGAI DI KEPULAUAN MENTAWAI: KAJIAN BIOGRAFI

Abstrak

Penelitian ini membahas tentang Ubbek Kerei, Seniman Tradisional Turuk Laggai Di Kepulauan Mentawai. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui biografi Ubbek Kerei sebagai anggota masyarakat dan seniman tradisional Turuk Laggai di Kepulauan Mentawai. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif yang bersifat deskriptif analisis. Data yang telah dikumpulkan dianalisis menggunakan teori biografi yang dikemukakan oleh Kuntowijoyo dan teori kontribusi yang dikemukakan oleh Soerjono Soekanto. Hasil penelitian ini menceritakan perjalanan hidup Ubbek Kerei dari masa kecil sampai ia dewasa, hingga ia berkiprah dalam kesenian dan memiliki peran penting dalam masyarakat suku Mentawai yang mana saat ini ia dikenal sebagai Sikerei. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini Ubbek Kerei dalam berkontribusi dalam kesenian Turuk Laggai baik sebagai seniman maupun sebagai Sikerei serta Perkembangan Kesenian Tradisional yang ada di Mentawai.

This study discusses Ubbek Kerei, a Traditional Artist of Turuk Laggai in the Mentawai Islands. The purpose of this study is to determine the biography of Ubbek Kerei as a member of the community and a traditional artist of Turuk Laggai in the Mentawai Islands. This study uses a qualitative method that is descriptive analysis. The data that has been collected is analyzed using the biographical theory proposed by Kuntowijoyo and the contribution theory proposed by Soerjono Soekanto. The results of this study tell the life journey of Ubbek Kerei from childhood to adulthood, until he was active in the arts and had an important role in the Mentawai tribe community where he is currently known as Sikerei. The conclusion of this study is Ubbek Kerei in contributing to the arts of Turuk Laggai both as an artist and as a Sikerei and the Development of Traditional Arts in Mentawai.
