Abstrak

The phenomenon of fatherlessness has become increasingly prevalent in Indonesia and has significant implications for adolescents’ psychological development. The absence of a father often leads to feelings of loss, emotional emptiness, and difficulties in building a sense of security and self-confidence. This study aims to explore how fatherless adolescents in Surabaya interpret the concept of mahabbah (divine love) as a source of spiritual strength and emotional resilience. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, data were collected from six participants aged 17–21 years who experienced the absence of a father due to death, divorce, or emotional detachment. Semi-structured interviews were conducted, and the data were analyzed thematically. The findings reveal that mahabbah is perceived as a form of divine love that replaces paternal affection and provides inner peace and self-acceptance. It functions as a source of psychological resilience, a substitute for disrupted attachment, and a mechanism for emotional regulation through reflection and spiritual practice. The internalization of mahabbah helps adolescents transform negative emotions such as anger and sadness into acceptance and serenity. This study highlights the potential of mahabbah as a psychospiritual intervention to enhance emotional stability and mental well-being among fatherless adolescents in urban contexts
