LEARNING STYLES OF OUTSTANDING STUDENTS AT UIN AR-RANIRY BANDA ACEH.
Learning style is the way we prefer to think, process and understand information. The results showed
that students who learned using their dominant learning style, while taking tests, achieved higher
scores than if they learned in a way that was not in line with their learning style. According to Bobbi
Deporter and Mike Hernacki in their book, explaining in general human learning styles are
distinguished in three major groups, namely visual learning styles, auditorial learning styles and
kinesthetic learning styles. These differences in learning styles must be taken into consideration
when lecturers plan learning activities. The research uses a type of descriptive research with a
qualitative approach. The subjects in this study were outstanding students of UIN Ar-Raniry totaling
24 students. Data collection techniques using interviews, observation and documentation. After the
data is collected, it is then analyzed using techniques proposed by Miles and Huberman. The
research location is UIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh which consists of 9 faculties, where each faculty is
represented by 2 outstanding students. The objectives of this study are: 1) To describe the
characteristics of visual, auditorial, and kinesthetic learning styles in outstanding students of UIN
Ar-Raniry. 2) To identify which learning style is more dominant for outstanding students at UIN ArRaniry. 3) To explain the extent to which the learning style of outstanding students can have
implications for achievement. The results of the data analysis can be concluded: 1) The dominant
visual learning style characteristic absorbs information by seeing, related to things related to
writing and reading, tends to be better with his sense of sight. Auditory learning style characteristics
predominantly absorb information by hearing, relate to things related to sound and tend to be better
with the sense of hearing. The dominant kinesthetic learning style characteristic absorbs information
with touch / motion, related to things related to motion and other physical activities, tends to be
better with the sense of touch / motion.2) Outstanding students of UIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh from
a total of 24 students who have a tendency to visual learning styles totaling 9 students (37.5%),
second place is auditorial learning style totaling 8 students (33.33%) and finally with the lowest
number of kinesthetic learning styles totaling 7 students (29.16%). 3) The extent to which the
learning style of outstanding students has implications for achievement depends largely on the
suitability of learning styles with the learning methods used, adaptability, and the application of
effective study strategies. By understanding and optimising their learning style, students can
increase their chances of outstanding academic and non-academic achievement.
