EFEKTIVITAS TEKNIK SELF-MANAGEMENT DALAM MENURUNKAN PERILAKU PEOPLE PLEASER

Abstrak

Perilaku people pleaser ditandai dengan kecenderungan yang berlebihan untuk mengutamakan kebutuhan orang lain dibandingkan kepentingan diri sendiri sehingga dapat berdampak negatif terhadap kesehatan mental dan kemampuan menetapkan batasan diri. Penelitian sebelumnya lebih banyak menggunakan teknik asertivitas dan pendekatan kognitif-perilaku, sedangkan intervensi yang menekankan perubahan perilaku secara mandiri dan berkelanjutan masih terbatas. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji efektivitas teknik self-management dalam menurunkan perilaku people pleaser pada mahasiswa. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan eksperimen dengan desain Single-Subject Research (SSR) pola A-B-A yang terdiri atas fase baseline, intervensi, dan kemandirian. Partisipan penelitian adalah seorang mahasiswa perempuan berusia 22 tahun yang dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive sampling berdasarkan skor tertinggi pada skala people pleaser. Intervensi dilakukan selama tujuh hari menggunakan modul self-management berbentuk jurnal harian. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui Skala People Pleaser dan modul self-management, kemudian dianalisis secara kuantitatif dan deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa skor people pleaser subjek menurun dari 23 menjadi 19 dari total 24 skor, yang berarti mengalami penurunan sebesar 20,83%. Selain itu, subjek menunjukkan peningkatan secara bertahap dalam perilaku asertif, kepuasan diri, dan pengalaman emosi yang lebih positif. Dengan demikian, teknik self-management dinilai efektif dalam menurunkan perilaku people pleaser serta membantu meningkatkan regulasi diri dan asertivitas.

People pleaser behavior is characterized by an excessive tendency to prioritize others' needs over personal interests, which may negatively affect an individual's mental health and self-boundaries. Previous studies have primarily focused on assertiveness training and cognitive-behavioral approaches, while interventions that emphasize independent and sustainable behavioral change remain limited. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of self-management techniques in reducing people pleaser behavior among university students. The study employed an experimental approach using a Single-Subject Research (SSR) design with an A-B-A pattern consisting of baseline, intervention, and independence phases. The participant was a 22-year-old female university student selected through purposive sampling based on the highest score on the people pleaser scale. The intervention was conducted for seven days using a self-management module in the form of a daily journal. Data were collected using the People Pleaser Scale and the self-management module and analyzed quantitatively and descriptively. The results showed that the participant's people pleaser score decreased from 23 to 19 out of 24, indicating a reduction of 20.83%. In addition, the participant demonstrated gradual improvements in assertive responses, higher self-satisfaction, and more positive emotional experiences. Therefore, self-management techniques are considered effective in reducing people pleaser behavior and promoting self-regulation and assertiveness.
